Travelling is often associated with fun and exciting new experiences, however, for many Black travellers, this isn’t always the case thanks to unconscious bias, racism and systemic oppression.
As a white business owner, I am continuously listening to and learning from the Black community around the world and am increasingly aware of, and educating myself on, the unfair and systemic disadvantages that Black people and Black business owners face at the hands of an unjust society that has been designed to suppress anyone who isn’t white.
This is why I wanted to share a recent and ever-expanding list produced by Condé Nast showcasing Black-owned accommodation around the world. From upscale boutiques in America, to island resorts in the Caribbean and luxury safari camps across Africa, click the link below to see how you can support the future of Black business on your next holiday.
Excerpt from the article: “In 2020, there is still a lot of work to be done in the hospitality industry, but with an increasing number of Black-owned accommodations throughout the world, it’s easier to know where you’ll feel welcome. As Danielle Mitchell, founder of the community Black Girls Travel Too, says of her stays at Black-owned properties, “You don’t have to stay in a five-star hotel to be treated like a five-star guest.”
Plus, as we strive for a more inclusive travel industry, it’s important for all travelers to be mindful of where they spend their money—and putting dollars into Black-owned hotels, which are too far and few between, is a small way we can all help change that from the ground up.”
